Quilting means using long needles to sew textile items with inner core fabric, the inner core fabric could be cotton fiber or composite cotton and so on, so the inner core fabric are fixed after sewing. Generally, quilted fabric consists of two parts: inner textile material and outer textile fabric, in the meantime, the inner textile material can be floccule or loose fibers. Due to this kind of structure and the loose fiber makes the bedding core are not fixed, on the other hand, it is easy to flow and shrink, and the thickness is uneven.

In order to make the outer layer of the fabric and the inner core of the bedding tightly fixed, and to make the thickness of the bedding is uniform, the outer layer of the fabric and the inner core are sewn side by side in a straight line or decorative pattern (including stitching). This process of increasing beauty and practicality is called quilting. The quilt or mattress that has been sewn through this process is called quilting or quilting pad.

Normally, there are two kinds of weaving way for outer fabric: woven fabric and knitted  fabric.

woven fabric is a kind of loom in the form of weaving, the yarn through the warp and weft of the interleaving. woven fabric fiber is crossed, you can see very clear longitude and latitude lines, knitted fabric fiber is connected to each other in the form of a coil.

Woven fabrics organization mainly includes plain weave, twill weave and satin weave. knitted fabrics are mainly divided into weft knitted fabrics and warp knitted fabrics.

They are different from fabric structure. Woven fabric is made by interweaving the warp and weft, while knitted fabric is made by constantly knotting coils

The woven fabric is contracted lengthwise, and the warp and weft do not change when dragging. Because of the warp of the woven fabric, the weft extension has little relationship with the contraction, and there is no conversion, so the fabric is generally tight and stiff.

Knitting is formed because the coil is curved by the yarn in space, and the height and width of the coil can obviously be converted to each other under different tension conditions, so the elongation of the knitted fabric is large. Knitted fabric has soft texture, good wrinkle resistance and breathability, and has greater extensibility and elasticity.

There are several kinds of inner core fabric: cotton fiber or composite cotton or viscose bamboo fibre.

Cotton is comfortable, moreover, they are soft and cooling, it is known as breathable and absorbent fibers. Cotton fibers can hold liquid more than twenty times of their own weight. Cotton fibers are natural hollow fibers. Since cotton wrinkles, mixing it with polyester or applying some permanent finish gives the proper properties to cotton garments. They are very strong, dye absorbent and can stand up against abrasion wear and high temperature.Cotton fibers are often blended with other fibers such as nylon, linen, wool, and polyester, to achieve the best properties of each fiber.

Composite cotton is a variety of material mixed with cotton, it is not pure cotton fabric. For example, to keep warm, wool can be mixed with cotton, then we can get Composite wool cotton,  the warmth retention is better than pure cotton fiber. Cotton and linen blends fiber floc, then we will get cotton bast. It has the advantages of both cotton and linen, environmental protection, breathable, comfortable. In the dry and wet conditions of elasticity and good, stable size, small shrinkage rate, with tall, easy to wrinkle, easy to wash, fast drying characteristics, and the use of whole plant fiber.
